The writings in this collection of essays, articles, reviews, and interviews date from 1968 to the present. In 1968, when Saleem Peeradina was a student in the master’s programme at Bombay University, his poems had already started to appear in magazines such as Poetry India, Opinion, Quest, The Illustrated Weekly, and Thought. He was working on editing a selection of Indian poetry in English for a special issue of Quest. And most excitingly, he was also writing articles and reviewing books for Imprint, The Times of India, Quest, and other interesting periodicals—all in an environment that would shape the soul of any sensitive writer. After retiring from teaching in 2012, he continued to write more essays and reviews of more recent books produced in a globally diversified world.
This eclectic compilation is not only a record of the nonfiction that Peeradina has written with passion and integrity over the course of more than half a century, but also a mirror to a time that only happens in the writerly mind.
